Destroyed

“Power is being told you are not loved and not being DESTROYED by it”

Madonna, like her or not, has nailed it in my view.

When others abandon, tell us they no longer love us and leave, that is when girls become women and boys become men. Or not.

If our own marriage to ourselves is fragile the additional self-abandoning when another leaves us is what DESTROYS us. External change is inevitable. Anyone who loves us cannot offer us a lifetime-relationship guarantee. No parent, family member, lover nor friend.

People die, move countries, have a change of heart or simply just get the shits with us and leave, never to return. It is life.

The only lifetime relationship that we are guaranteed to still be in as we take our last breath is the one we are having with ourselves. Me, myself and I. We are a team until death do us part.

What shape is your marriage with yourself in whenever external love leaves the building?

Empowered or DESTROYED?

It all depends on whether your internal self-love packs up and runs after them.

If we work on improving our Emotional Fitness as we mature we consolidate our relationship with ourselves. When we befriend our ego, accept our liabilities and own our assets without shame and we can more readily “back ourselves.” It is a solid partnership when our yin and yang, our masculine and feminine work with rather than against each other. Our yang or our masculine, ensures our ego; our intellect and physical activity are in good working order. Our yin, or our feminine, ensures our heartfelt truth; responsibility for our emotions, caring and sensitivity remains intact so we become an empowered individual. Not easy to neither bully nor seduce, a force to be reckoned with. The real deal. The whole package.

When we remain true to ourselves we have no desire to bullshit others, for love not fear drives us. We become the complete package when our head, heart and body all work together. When our yin and yang, our masculine and feminine are at peace not at war another can no longer complete nor DESTROY us.

So let’s not give our power away to others, and refine the art of taking care of our own business, the business of self-loyalty as a form of self-preservation.

Shakespeare offered us a formula for living designed to protect us from feeling emotionally DESTROYED by self-betrayal or abandonment from another. It’s a goodie to remember as an everyday mantra …

“This above all; To thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man”
