Danger

“The DANGER always exists for those who are afraid of it.”

George Bernard Shaw is one of my all time favourite wordsmiths because of wise and succinct sentences like this quote above. Here he sums up everything I believe about the word DANGER in a nutshell.

The biggest DANGER we face in our lifetime is often not a DANGEROUS external event, but our fears about our capability to be the best versions of ourselves when we are challenged.

We are in real emotional DANGER if we refuse to face and own our mistakes, poor decisions, fearfully hidden secrets, lack of self-love and unhealthy habits. If we won’t confess all of who we are to someone, sometime it will eventually eat us up from the inside, like an emotional cancer.

Taking short cuts, pretending and hiding from ourselves and those we love the most, will eventually catch up on us. The emotional bill for not facing our fragile human self accumulates the longer we delay.

We all stuff up. We all have been unkind, unfair and dishonest if not to another, to ourselves. My sincere apologies to those saints reading this, that have not. You are the exception in humanity as a rule.

Most people spend the second half of their lives getting over the first. We have all got emotional stuff, just in varying degrees. The DANGER we all face is if we do not conquer our darkest fears and own them, they end up owning us.

I am inviting you to review any hidden DANGER zones lurking within your world that require some attention. I have included a clear and wise list written by a man who is close to a saint in my opinion, Mahatma Gandhi for you consider …

1. Wealth without work

2. Pleasure without conscience

3. Knowledge without character

4. Business without ethics

5. Science without humanity

6. Religion without accountability

7. Politics without principle

I would add a couple more for your consideration that are most definitely DANGEROUSLY corrosive to a quality life …

8. Relationships without authenticity

9. Lifestyles reliant on emotional weapons of mass distraction (booze, food, drugs, work, sex, money)

For those of us choosing to work on these DANGER zones we will find we gradually become more emotionally available to ourselves and those we love. The most DANGEROUS person for those still hiding from themselves is an Emotionally Fit and available person.

Lotsa love Cynthia xxx
