“One must be compassionate to oneself, before external compassion” The Dalai Lama reminds us.
Compassion involves the art of DE-SHOULDING ourselves, then others. It is a universal truth that emotionally we can’t give away what we haven’t got. We will just end up feeling drained and resentful.
Respecting true innocence in children is easy, however respecting it also in tired adults is an act of grace.
Too often it’s assumed we SHOULD know how.
Everyone has fragilities and areas of emotional inexperience they are working on.
Adults choosing growth are often overwhelmed with new responsibilities and levels of intimacy.
We all drop the ball in new territory and genuinely feel lost at times.
It’s really constructive to weed out this harsh word SHOULD from our own dialogue and to assist those we care about to do so too. Because, the domino effect of this common weed like word SHOULD strangles feelings of emotional wellbeing.
SHOULD creates SHAME which means we or they feel SHITTY.
So let’s be gentlemen and women today and refrain from focusing on what SHOULD be happening and choose to become more compassionate about what actually is happening?
Lets love ourselves and others as we are; all of us an emotional work in progress.
Replacing that shitty, shame filled word SHOULD with genuine compassion is what authentic Emotional Fitness is all about.
May the compassion fairies be with you today ..
I wish you many gentle SHOULD free decades ahead.
Lotsa love Cynthia
