Approval

“Can’t get no satisfaction, but I try, and I try, and I try, and I try.”

Most of us can empathise with Mick Jagger’s frustrating lyrics from time to time.

Personal satisfaction is the most important ingredient of success and we can only acquire it when we let go of external APPROVAL and honour our own uniqueness. So I would just like to offer a short and sweet little reminder to help improve instead of fatigue our own personal level of Emotional Fitness.

Worrying about what others think of us and focusing on their APPROVAL is a futile waste of energy and an emotionally exhausting way to live.  It is like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon, we set ourselves up for inevitable disappointment.

There is a silent universal law that applies to us all when it comes to attaining the APPROVAL of others: Those of us who seek APPROVAL the most get the least, and those of us who need APPROVAL the least attract the most.

So here’s the tip that Beautiful Barb, one of my wise elders, taught me. That is to remember another simple truth if worrying about APPROVAL is sometimes an issue, and that is, in Barb’s words …

“We would all worry less of what we think others think about us if we only realised how little they actually do!”

Our own self-APPROVAL is the only place where we can consistently find internal comfort and strength. The more we respect ourselves, the less we will require APPROVAL from others.

If we find too often feelings of rejection flood our lives, this is an alarm that indicates we could benefit from doing some emotional work on letting go of our need for external APPROVAL. Relationship satisfaction will elude us when we give our power away and seek APPROVAL instead of working on honouring our truth. If we don’t and won’t go within, we will inevitably go without.

How’s your self-respect level?

If it needs some work try increasing the level of kindness, compassion, patience and humour you offer yourself. If we gift ourselves with the same love and gentleness we offer those we care for the most, our self-respect will increase and our need for external APPROVAL will decrease.
