PLAY

One of the key reasons many of us become Emotionally Unfit is because in our adult life we have forgotten the art of PLAY.

The human heart needs freedom and time to PLAY. It is not a luxury but a necessity to sustain our Emotional Fitness as we mature.

Pure PLAY in adult life involves activities that build our emotional health and self-respect not erode it. Happy children and pets master the art of PLAY, they are our teachers. They require no drugs, alcohol, excessive food, shopping, gambling, sex or computers. Just pure joy, creativity and freedom to explore for the pure fun of it with no investment in an outcome.

To PLAY is a human instinct not just reserved for childhood years, it remains with us for life; however too many adults view it as a luxury not a necessity. PLAY is our head, heart and bodies favourite way of learning new information about ourselves and our world. It is the most efficient way to re-connect with ourselves and get our thoughts, feelings and actions to take some time off from doing and just have fun being with ourselves.

Some of histories greatest minds acknowledge the importance of remembering to include PLAY as a deliberate act of self-care in adult life. Jung states …

“The creation of something new is not created by the intellect, but by the PLAY instinct arising from inner necessity; our creative mind PLAYS with the object it loves.”

So let’s check in with our emotional diet here and now. When it comes to including PLAY as a regular component of our lifestyle, are we malnourished?

Do we place as much importance on the emotional health of our heart?

Do we feed ourselves with regular doses of free range PLAY?

Are we PLAYfull adults or PLAY empty pains in the arse that are far too busy for fun?

The old saying is so very true …

“All work and no PLAY makes Jack and Jill boring old farts”
